Rave Music
Rave music is quite a broad term used to describe the different varieties of music that can be heard at typically raves. Rave music is exclusively electronic, although there are often samples included in it from other types of music. In the late eighties and early nineties the term rave music would have been used to describe Acid House, which was a popular form of dance music at the time that was strongly linked to the rave scene. Acid house was one of the most common forms of rave music at that time and it can still be heard at raves today, although the mix of different dance music at some modern raves can be quite eclectic.
Rave music is typically highly energetic and fast paced. Although in initially the dominate forms of rave music were acid house and techno there have since been many developments in dance music and there are numerous other types of electronic music that is now considered to be rave music. Many people would now consider trance, gabber and break-beat to be forms of rave music also. However, not all rave music is necessarily up tempo, there are also more relaxed forms of rave music. Many raves will have separate areas where ambient and IDM (intelligent dance music) will be played for people who want to relax.
Rave music is very popular across the world, although it has a particularly strong following in northern European countries such as Holland and Germany.
